The Avifauna and Community structure of birds in Wuhai of Inner Mongolia were investigated from April in 2009 to March in 2010.A total of 132 bird species belonging to 17 orders,37 families were recorded. Among them,26 birds are residents,71 are summer visitors,27 passing migrants and 8 winter visitors. Among birds,97 including 83 Palaearctic species breed (They are composed of 56 species North type,11 species Northeast type,2 species Northeast-North China type,12 species Central-Asian type and 2 species Highland type) in the study area accounting for 85.6% of the breeding birds. Only 7species Oriental type belong to oriental region birds, which account for 7.22% of all breeders.Obviously, the elements of Palaeoarctic realm are dominant in this avifauna. The diverse ecology type has been formed as a result of the special landform types and complicated natural geographical conditions. Based on the terrains and the type of vegetation, the birds habitants are classified as wetland, Woodland, Populated area, Farmland, Scrubland and Mountains. The interlock distribute in these habitats provides a more advantageous conditions for the birds' forage, habitat and breeding. The results show that the number of bird species is 97 in the wetland, the most concentrated area in birds' distribution of all the habitats. The results indicate that the bird Community structure in Wuhai has a large divergence in different seasons and habitats. The Shannon-wiener index and evenness index in Spring are higher than in any other seasons; and the Shannon-wiener index in wetland is higher than in any other habitats.Based on the survey and research, I analyze the status of birds and their habitants in Wuhai, and put forward some protection management countermeasures and suggestions accordingly concerning better protection of the rare bird resources in Wuhai in the future.
