On the development of the Students' Skills and Abilities inthe Teaching of Botanical Practice in Normal University- - -Postgraduate: Zhang Shiting Supervisor: Xue YueguiBiology Department of Guangxi Normal UniversityAbstractThe teaching in botanical practice can be divided into laboratory experiment and fieldwork, both of which are successive as a whole .The former is the foundation of the latter, and the latter, the continuation and extension of the former. The combination of the two classifications enables students to acquire more systematic knowledge about botany and cultivate a variety of skills and abilities in the botanical practice. The main purpose of the quality education is to attain an all-round improvement in the individual qualities with the cultivation as its emphasis. This thesis aims at a probe upon how to improve the teaching in normal university on the basis of the botanical practice and the theories upon the construction of skills and abilities. We attempt to design a target for the improvement in practical skills and abilities. The target that we have designed can be demonstrated a.~ follows:laboratoxperimentfieldworkskills in practiceabilitiesabiliti(1) skills in using observing ilitiesabilitiesinin instruments and medicinesininbotanicalbotanical(2)skills in making sheets glassesdistinguishingidentifyingobservationsexperiments and slices by handplant speciesplant species(3) skills in drawing sketch of plants(4) skills in colleting and makin 4 spec imen of plantsbilities in practiTraditional methods in biological research are adopted, which are educational experimental methods and educational statistical methods. In the botanical teaching practice, we design ascientific method of developing the students' skills and abilities according to the concrete teaching contents. The ways through which we cultivate students' skills in using microscope include: (1) telling about the main functions; (2) disciplining strictly and operating regularly; In the development of the students' abilities in observing, we adopt the following methods: (1) to make a deep study about the students, which, in our opinion, is its foundation; (2)to pay attention to the design and guide of the contents and methc ~- -bserving; (3)to employ scientific methods of observing ; As for the devellopment of 1 iv tents' abilities in creating , we design the following methods: (1) to arouse students' sense of creating (2) to cultivate the students' spirit of creating ;(3) to conduct the ways of creating. The methods of developing the students' abilities in distinguishing plant species include: (1) activating roles of every feeling organs; (2) enlightening the students in grasping the key points; (3) observing the life styles, habitats, and the whole images of plant species, and (4) stressing practicality and interesting of plants. In order to develop the smdents' abilities in identifying plants, we require the students to use indexes correctly and to utilize the catalogue of plants effectively. After testing, we found that the results achieved by the students in the experimental class were better than those in the contracted class, in which skills in practice include the above four aspects and abilities in practice consist of experiment-operating, experiment-analyzing and plant-identifying abilities. It has been demonstrated that the improved teaching methods are help to the improvement of the students' skills and abilities in botanical practiceDue to the fact that in the process of researching some problems cannot be solved immediately in addition to my not too precise operating methods and the limited knowledge, there is still much room to be improved.
