In this thesis, the three genera_ Phaeophyscia, Physcia and Physconia of the lichen family Physciaceae in Xinjiang are treated. The number of examined specimens, collected from many places in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of China, is up to one thousand. The gross morphology, the chemistry, the ecology, the distribution, the evolution, and the taxonomy are discussed by the means of LM, SEM, TEM, CT, MCT and TLC. At present, the three genera in Xinjiang include 38species, among which 4 species are new to China and 8 species new to Xinjiang. Among the 38 species, 14 species have soridia, 8 have isidia, 4 have lobules, and apothecia were found in 25 species . All of them were classified into 6 ecological types and 6 geographical elements. The main substances in the three genera lichen in Xinjiang are atranorin, zeorin and skyrin by as determined by TLC. The vertical distribution of some species in the three genera are also discussed with the aid of the data in hand. The evolution of the lichens in the three genera are generally discussed and the "species pair" and "similar species pair" may be exist in the three genera. Each species in the three genera is described from the angel of its character, chemical substance and habitat. The keys to the genus and species are also presented in my thesis. The results of my thesis may contribute to the research on the cryptogams in Xinjiang.
