In the paper data from GPS-array constituted by three GPS receivers located in Wuhan, Anlu and Jingzhou are mainly used to investigate the characteristics of ionospheric storms and TIDs during two severe magnetic storms. In addition, data from GPS signal scintillation monitor system located in Wuhan University are used to monitor and initially study L-band signal scintillations. The main work and achievements are showed as followed:Firstly, a method is designed to preprocess TEC data from GPS-array, and a proper arithmetic is introduced into estimating TID propagation parameter. Besides, the method of removing system error among different receivers is effective and creative.Secondly, the characteristics of ionospheric storms during the two severe magnetic storms on March 31 and April 11. 2001 are analyzed. The results indicated that the ionosperic response on March 31 is. on the whole, positive phase effects, and the ionosperic response on April 11 is the exchange of positive and negative phase effects in the main phase and mainly negative storms in the recovery phase. The study results have foundational signification for further understanding morphological characteristics of ionospheric storms and predicting space weather.Thirdly, according to data from GPS-array, TIDs during the main phases of the two severe magnetic storms are studies by the method of analyzing traveling ionospheric disturbances introduced by the paper. The results imply that their amplitudes all are above 1016el./m2, their horizontal phase velocities separately are 360±58 m/s and 371±37 m/s, their average wavelengths separately are 860km and 959km, their main periods range from 37 min. to 41min, and their horizontal propagational azimuths are 184.8°±8.2° and 185.6°±0.4°.Lastly, three medium and strong scintillations events in 2003 are investigated. The results showed three events all occurred around the local midnight, and all are accompanied with TEC wavelike disturbances. It is indicated there are some inherent relationship between ionospheric irregularities of different scales.
