This paper focuses on the study about the stability of main coal seam's roof in Yanzhou coalfield, and systematically analyzes key factors determining the mechanical properties of rock based on the advanced theories and methods of sedimentary petrology, rock mechanics and geological engineering. The contents include sediment conditions, the law of structure's development, and the mechanical properties rock. Sediment conditions mainly include lithological characters, rock combination, the types of cementation, and the sedimentary environment are analyzed. The structure's development characters mainly include the regional structure's development. The mini-type structure's distributing, and structure's combination of rock mass are studied. The mechanical properties rock mainly include the mechanical index, the physical quality of rock, and the influence of structure's development on the mechanical properties are discussed. In conclusion, the weight value of the key factors are discussed based on the analytical hierarchy process (AHP), and evaluating the stability of main coal seam's roof in Yanzhou coal mine based on the compound superposition process.
