First, the characteristics of Doppler velocity PPI for some typical streamline field and synoptic system were summarized. The distribution characteristics of the sheet continuous precipitation, convection cloud precipitation Doppler velocity PPI in Jilin province in 2003-2004 were analyzed. It indicates that lower wind direction convergence, wind speed convergence or superposition of warm advection between the overlap of large scale convergence and upper wind direction divergence, wind speed divergence or superposition of cold advection between the overlap of large scale divergence displayed on Doppler velocity PPI pictures are benefit to water-vapour vertical transfer and precipitation genesis, development and maintaining. Using continuous three-dimensional wind field structure of precipitation system detected by Doppler radar, the phrase of precipitation system can be determined and the time of weather modification can be chosen reasonably.Second, according to calculation principle of vertically integrated liquid water (VIL), by means of double linear interpolation and Visual C++ 6.0 advance programme language, the distribution characteristics of the sheet continuous precipitation, convection cloud precipitation whole VIL and the VIL in the upper part and low part of 0℃ layer were analyzed. It indicates that VIL is more reasonable for the choice of region of weather modification operation than radar intensity echo. Furthermore, VIL can be used in the analysis of hard rain and strong hard rain and the research of precipitation mechanic, etc.In summary, the analysis of Doppler radar three-dimensional wind field structure combined with the analysis of VIL could guide weather modification operation more reasonably. For example, they can be used in the choice of weather, region, time, manner and measures of weather modification operation etc.
