Metadata Extension And Management Research Of Data-Sharing Network Of Earth System Science

With extensive application of computer in geography and development of scientific data-sharing, metadata has been one of core technologies in the field of scientific data-sharing. On base of operation of metadata, Data-Sharing Network of Earth System Science takes full advantage of metadata to provide service. However, data of Earth System Science has itself characteristics: huge data volume, complicated subjects and too many metadata standards. So it is a core problem and key technology how to actualize metadata extension and management of Data-Sharing Network of Earth System Science. Therefore, this paper includes following parts:1) Summary of metadata correlative research. Firstly, conception and function of metadata are analyzed; and then typical metadata standards in China and abroad are introduced summarily and analyzed simply; and then the application of metadata in geographical data sharing and research of metadata management at home and abroad are summarized; lastly, XML Schema and JSP and their advantage to this study are analyzed.2) Metadata extension mechanism of Earth System Science data on base of XML Schema. Firstly, this part summarizes subject and data characteristics of Earth System Science, so it is very necessary to establish a mechanism to extend metadata in developing and researching Data-Sharing Network of Earth System Science; and then basic methods, abstract model and basic principle of the metadata extension are discussed, and the multi-subjects extension expression of core metadata of Data-Sharing Network of Earth System Science is realized in this part. Finally, Application and realization of the mechanism to extend metadata of Data-Sharing Network of Earth System Science on base of XML Schema is described, and several examples of metadata extension of Data-Sharing Network of Earth System Science are illustrated.3) Designing and realization of metadata dynamic management interface. Firstly,the whole designing idea of metadata management is discussed: designing target, function and main problem to consider. Model of metadata management is summarized, and developing environment and language are introduced simply. And then designing and realization of metadata dynamic management interface is discussed in detail. The structure designing of the interface and the core function of the interface to realize are discussed in this part. And realization of interface function is illustrated with examples of geographical core metadata of Data-Sharing Network of Earth System Science.
