Since GIS come out in the world, it has involved greatly in land use research. By some extent, the history of GIS development was just that of the application of GIS to land use study. So, making use of the technology of GIS and terrain data, this paper analyses the land use in the researched area. The main researched contents of this paper are as following as:1. Based on spatial overlay analysis of the land use data and DEM, the natural surface area of kinds of land use is got. Making the most use of the DEM and GIS software to calculate the surface area will be more economical, more objective and more accurate.2. Based on spatial overlay analysis of the land use data and the slope data, we can differentiate the critical land use types which don't measure up to the requirement. Further more, we apply the results to the project of land conversion from farmland to forest or grassland.3. Developed from Ji yuan Liu's comprehensive model of regional differentiation of land use degree(Lα), the expanding comprehensive model of regional differentiation of land use degree(ELα) is more suitable for small-scale areas. Using the ELa, this paper studies the microcosmic vertical differentiation regularity of land-use in the area.
