Recently, more and more artificial boundary conditions have been used inphysical wave motion simulations. One of the most famous techniques is thePerfectly Matched Layer (PML), which has been introduced in to Electromagneticfield simulation in 1994. Though there is some research in these subjects in China,we want to introduce this method in elastic-dynamics problems. In this dissertation, we address following five issues:1. We briefly introduced the PML development procedure in the past ten years, including the basic theory and concept of PML. The basis of PML theory has beenintroduced through general partial differential equation analysis.2. We deduced the formulation of the PML in Velocity-Stress equation set, andthen combined this formulation with the Finite Difference Method (FDM, VerieuxScheme). Give some calculation samples and some advices.3. Keeping the concept of PML in the Electromagnetic simulation, we deducedthe formulation of the PML based on second order hyperbolic partial equation.4. In the Finite Element procedure, we try to use the same way as the FDM andGalerkin Finite Element Method concepts, since that we deduced the formulationof PML based on Finite Element Method. Combined the programs and give somebriefly calculation samples and advices.5. At last, we compare the PML and MTF artificial boundary conditions andgive some advices to the user of PML and MTF in consideration of applicability, computational efficiency and capacity.
