Change detection is a technique used to determine the change between two or more time periods of a particular object of study. Change detection is an important process in monitoring and managing natural resources and urban development because it provides quantitative analysis of the spatial distribution in the population of interest. This dissertation discusses the techniques and methods regarding monitoring land use dynamic county level based on change detection technique of remote sensing data updating and analysis based on GIS. The above methods and techniques are applied to the Yayun Village, Peking land use changes from 1983 to 2002.Image fusion is the combination of two or more different images to form a new image that contains enhanced information. The essential objective of image fusion is that nearly all of the original application-specific information should be preserved, and artifacts should be minimized in the final product.Three satellite images, i.e. two from TM and one from QuickBird scenes, are used. Land use changes are determined using the two change detection techniques. The analysis of the change information indicates that land use in Yayun Village have changed greatly in the study period. The wavelet transform, a well-known and solid mathematical tool, has already been applied to multi-sensor image fusion. The wavelet transform allows the decomposition of an image into its constituent spatial scale layers. In this dissertation, as a further development of the application of wavelet analysis to image fusion, a new scheme for multi-resolution image fusion, Local-High-Frequency-Replaced fusion method is presented. This method is testified to have the ability to preserve the finest spatial information of the input images and minimize artifact in the final fused product. A method that multiple features based analysis of high-resolution remotely sensed imagery is brought forward and used. Finally, the mainly several force factors on land use change are discussed: urbanization; marketing; comparing economic profit; population development and the determining behavior of government which is the most important factor.
