The competition in the 21st century, is not between enterprises, but between supply chains. If enterprises in the supply chain want to be highly competitive, the supply chain must be made to have competitive edge first. Robust collaboration means not only profitable business, but also sharing of resources and common strategies. So, how to make the supply chain competitive is particularly important. For this purpose, in this thesis, we study optimal inventory in the supply chain to improve the supply chain competition.This research is based on supply chain management theory, optimization theory, decision-making theory and inventory management theory. The research methods include model analysis, numeral analysis, comparative analysis and so on.At first, we investigate the status of domestic and foreign inventory management. We pay particular attention to the optimal inventory problem for deteriorating items. Taking into account buying-market situation, we give some suggestions on applications of optimal inventory model for deteriorating items.This paper deeply studies supply chain inventory decision-making under constant demand. By using qualitative analyses and quantitative analyses, we develop some inventory decision-making models, in order to decrease supply chain inventory cost by optimizing supply chain inventory. We aim at minimizing joint total cost from an integrated perspective among the supplier, the producer, and the buyer. Then, we derive an optimal inventory cycle and minimal inventory cost for the whole supply chain. We also do numerical simulation to test the inventory model. The results show the accordance between the proposed model and the real problem. We conclude the thesis by pointing out some possible research topics.
