Geologic section is an important diagram of reflecting the structure and lithology of stratum. It is the most intuitionistic and effectual expression of stratum. It shows the structure and sedimentary rule of stratum visually. It can offer gists on systematically analyzing the area of geological condition and rightly coaching the exploiture on ground resource and carrying out projects.Geologic section is drew by handcraft or by CAD technology and component GIS technology linking with program languages. Because it is inefficient and the data is difficult to reserve, the traditional handcraft method can't meet with the information management in geology industry. By CAD technology, it can improve the degree of automatization and show fault and fold, but lacking of GIS function such as spatial analysis, topology and spatial query. By component GIS technology, it can apply GIS function and plot the geologic section of loose strata, but it haven't shown the geological structures such as fold and fault. The system studied in this paper not only can show fold and fault, but also can apply GIS function.This paper analyzes the data structure of automatic generating geologic profile and fold and fault. On the basis of analyzing spatial distribution orderliness of geologic stratum, the rule on making up stratum is set down. And the application of the rule in this system can help to automatically generate the geologic profile. The method to show fold and fault on the section is proposed on the basis of the geometrical shape and description elements of fold and fault. By turn left algorithm polygons of stratum are generated and the topology is built. The lines are smoothed by cubic spline interpolation.Taking the geologic profile automatic generating method as the core, this paper carried on the requirement analysis and the design to the total structure, software structure, database...etc of the system. Based on .NET framework and ArcEngine, the automatic generating system of geologic section is established.
