Water-supply system is the main source that keeps a city going because industry, daily life and everything needs water. Cities are always built in areas that have rich water resource, like areas with rich underground water, or along big river banks. This way it's easier to get water with shorter pipes, which can save investment, and it's easier to operate and control. And water hammer doesn't happen in general. As the population grows, industry develops rapidly and living standard rises, traditional underground water resource dries up and city areas along the rivers get polluted badly. These cities have to get water from places tens of kilometers away or even farther, and pipelines in big cities are getting longer and longer.Water pressure is generally low when water runs steadily in these pipelines, and if there's water hammer at some parts there'll be suction pressure inside the pipelines, and there'll be bubbles at some parts. When the main water hammer comes the bubbles will burst up and this can cause void bubble crumbling water hammer.Besides, when the pumps stop, there'll be water flow abruption at the high points of the pipelines, and there'll be suction pressure bubbles on a large scale. And if the pumps start suddenly and large flow of water flows through, the bubbles at higher section will also turn into water because of the rise of the pressure, and the vacuum section can make water hit the pipes rapidly and this can cause void bubble crumbling water hammer. Void bubble crumbling water hammer can lead to extremely high pressure and this can destroy the pipelines.Pipeline water hammer is common in complex water-supply systems, and it's very harmful, so we must use proper water hammer calculating method to analyse and calculate pipe net instant water power.
