The characteristics of engineering construction and management of seawall and foreshore are analyzed in this paper. Based on analysis, the integration and application of information is necessary for engineering construction and management. In this paper, the MIS of engineering and management of seawall and foreshore is developed through making the technology of GIS, the modeling of the foreshore digital terrain, the engineering construction and management as the research emphases.The MIS depends on GIS as platform, the information of seawall and foreshore engineering as bases and the model of foreshore digital terrain as kernel. The MIS assembles the functions of management of spatial information and the analysis of foreshore terrain, and achieves the function of general management, coupling query and information display of multi-source data.The foreshore evolvement, engineering distribution and development scale of Shanghai are analyzed and studied by this MIS to provide a well decision support for engineering construction and management. It especially played an important role and made great social and economic effects in some projects such as construction programming scheme of Qingchaosha reservoir of Changxing Island, inning project of Hengsha East foreshore and Shanghai Foreshore Resources Report.
