Tianjin is one of the city in which the water resource is poorest in China, the groundwater is the important part of water supply. Along with the opening and development of Tianjin Binhai New Area become the country development stratagem, and the rapid development of society and economy, the need of water resource is strong. This paper link with the program of geology survey in the coastal area in Tianjin, collect and understand the research actuality of China and the World about groundwater resource, evaluate the hydrogeological condition, the dynamic water-level, the groundwater development actuality, the characteristic of water chemistry and water quality. The Tianjin coastal area is in Huanghua depression, the Cenozoic sediments is rich, and the depth of Quaternary is to 400m. The groundwater is divide into shallow and deep groundwater firstly. Shallow groundwater is phreatic groundwater, is saline water, is I group. Deep groundwater is artesian water, is freshwater mostly, is divide into II, III, IV group. The depth of groundwater development is bigger in a little area, it pass through Quaternary and into Upper-Tertiary Minghuazhen group, it is V group and below. In 70's and 80's of last century, the groundwater was produced in a larger amount in coastal area in Tianjin, and caused serious problem of geological environment, such as land subsidence. Later, the government control the producing of groundwater, and the effect is better in Tanggu Area. The mineralization of shallow groundwater is high in Tianjin coastal area, it cannot be used directly, it is aggressive fluid to the base of building, it cause soil salinization. The deep groundwater cannot be drinked strictly, and can be used for industry and agriculture in a general way.
