Light power in underwater target image detection attenuates sharply because of absorb and scattering, especially in turbid water. Backscattered light affects the image quality. Now the most common method to reduce backscattered light in underwater target image detection is Laser technology, i.e. range-gated method which separated the backscattered light by time and synchronous scanning which separated the backscattered light by space. Though the backscattered light is reduced effectively, yet they also have many faults, such as low depth of field, wide blind area, and the bulk, weight, power of the facility are very high.Based on the shortage of classic illumination and laser illumination method, we innovatively puts forward Inhomogeneous Optic Field Theory, i.e. in the three dimension space coordinate, the optic field distribution follows the principle of light attenuation underwater. Recounts the basic principal of Underwater Image Detecting Method of Inhomogeneous Optic Field, theoretically solves the problem of back scattered light noise, and deducts the light distribution characteristic of the inhomogeneous optic field. This method can detect high-definition image underwater in panoramic depth.The first part of this article introduces the actuality of underwater target detection of inbroad and abroad. The next part introduces the basic principles of classical method of underwater target image detection and the laser technology, expatiates their shortages and limitations.The third part recounts the basic principle of Inhomogeneous Optic Field ,based on which we using distributive light to establish a new underwater target image detection system. The fourth part shows the datas of the intensity of light detected in the tank experiment, by analysing which we can prove the rightess of the rightness of the method.At the last we expresses the deficiency in the establishment of the Inhomogeneous Optic Field and the expectations of future research.
