Located in the joint of geological structure, Shaanxi Province has extended different structural units, with complicated geologic formation. Moreover, northern, central and southern areas are quite different in the environment of geologic structure, distribution of earthquake disaster and character of media spread. Hence, there is the great necessity to study attenuation relationships of ground motions in subareas of Shaanxi Province.Based on what have been suggested by Professor HuYuxian, attenuation relationships of seismic motions have been established in this paper for three subareas of Shaanxi Province, by using the basic method of estimating them from historical data. Also attenuation relationships of seismic motions in American western area have been taken as reference for this study. At the very beginning, subareas of the province have been divided on the basis of geological character, then attenuation relationships of each area have been studied separately and finally attenuation relationships of seismic motions and response spectrum have been established for each area.Attenuation relationships of seismic motions in this paper can be applied to major construction work and the prediction of earthquake in Shaanxi Province.
