The geological background, coal-bearing rock formation and the characteristics of coal of Huainan coalfield are researched on the basis of inspection and collection among a large number of documents, data, together with numerous experiments and data collation. The study, divided into three parts, focuses on the harmful elements in coal of Huainan coalfield, including sulfur coal, mercury and other trace element characteristics.Total sulfur mapping changes in the vertical curve is achieved according to coal mining arithmetic mean of total sulfur in different coal seams and different coal bed worked out from the analysis of total sulfur in the collation of data from geological test reports of Huainan coal. Take Panji No.1 Coal Mine for example, a conclusion that it belongs to low sulfur coal is calculated according to data analysis in the Huainan coalfield sulfur coal distribution which came from respectively calculated the arithmetic average of the same coal seam and the geometric mean. With the increasing depth of Huainan Coal Mining, the characteristics of deep huainan sulfur content could be soundly predicted according to the available data.According to the test of mercury content of Huainan coal samples by Mercury analyzer AMA254, by comparing it found in the Huainan coal to the average levels of mercury of at home and abroad, the mercury content in Huainan coal is not prominent, and it shows no enrichment of mercury. According to the analysis of mercury content of Panji No.1 Coal Mine at different seam, it is concluded that mercury content in coal seams with no apparent change in the law. The analysis of samples from eight different coal showed that the coal mining area of Huainan coalfield enjoys evident difference in mercury content. Through the research of coal preparation of Wangfenggang Plant, it is discovered that coal washing can not remove mercury, the mercury content is higher in head coal. It shows that mercury in coal-like existence is not rich in minerals, but closely integrated with the organic matter or is bound to an insignificant particle dispersion in the status of the organic components.A total of 26 kinds of trace elements is detected, including 10 kinds of harmful trace elements and eight kinds of rare earth elements, by using instrumental neutron activation analysis (INAA) in determination of trace elements in coal from Huainan coalfield content. These trace elements in the Huainan coal content in the values show no unusual. Uranium and other trace elements in five kinds of harmful occur in minerals. And cobalt, molybdenum, antimony, barium, four of harmful trace elements in coal are at the complexity of the mode of occurrence, either given the existence of possible mineral, or the organic matter may also be relatively close, the organic matter and organic matter bound or associate. Selenium closely relates to organic matter and the status of the occurrence of the majority of selenium is bound to organic matter. Only Lutetium REE content of Huainan coal samples is lower than the Chinese average coal content, and the other seven were higher than the national average, but in the same average number of rare-earth element class with other coal sample. According to documentation both at home and abroad, no abnormal values are detected in comprison to foreign content of rare earth elements in coal.
