With the development of Global Navigation Satellite System and Low Earth Orbit (LEO) Satellite, GPS meteorology gains rapid development. Because of the advantage of real-time, continuous, no influence by climate, high precision and low-cost, precipitable water vapor (PWV) based on GPS data is studied in more and more countries and areas. The application of PWV based on GPS data in meteorology is analyzed comprehensively in the thesis. The calculation scheme and main steps of calculating PWV by ground-based GPS is introduced. The main research content of the thesis is depicted as follows.Firstly, the structure of atmosphere and its effect on GPS signals is studied, and the surveying and calculating methods of atmosphere parameters are expatiated.Secondly, the basic principle of calculating PWV by ground-based GPS and the delay of signals in the transmission process and calculation model is studied. The main steps and method of calculating PWV based on ground-based GPS is summarized.Thirdly, according to the surveying data and precise ephemeris of a ground-based GPS network in southwest, the estimates of total zenith delay are available using Bernese. Then estimates of PWV are obtained using meteorological data. Finally, the local atmosphere weighted average temperature model is built up using meteorological data of the area. And the comparison of PWV derived from GPS and those from radio-sonde observations is given.
