Taxonomy Of Ciliates From Different Types Of Soil

Twenty species of soil ciliates belonging to one class, three orders, five families and 17 genera were isolated from different types of soil in Qingdao, Chengdu, Guangxi, Lanzhou, and the Antarctic, and morphologically investigated using non-flooded Petri dish method, live observation and protargol impregantion techniques. These are: Saudithrix granulifera n. sp., Pattersoniella magna n. sp., Cyrtohymena australis (new record), Cyrtohymena candens (new record), Cyrtohymena quadrinucleata (new record), Australocirrus oscitans (new record), Rigidocortex octonucleatus (new record), Hemiurosoma similis (new record), Urosomoida dorsiincisura (new record), Paramphisiella caudata (new record), Uroleptoides polycirratus (new record), Lamtostyla islandica (new record), Pseudouroleptus caudatus, Cyrtohymena tetracirrata, Sterkiella cavicola, Oxytricha granulifera, Urosoma caudata, Gastrostyla steinii, Caudiholosticha sylvatica, and Engelmanniella mobilis, except for Cyrtohymena tetracirrata and Sterkiella cavicola other non-new records were only mentioned in ecological literatures. Supplementary descriptions of the live morphology and infraciliature of these ciliates were provided in detail, and compared with original descriptions and those of related populations.In addition, 40 frequent and/or dominant soil ciliates belonging to seven classes (Spirotrichea, Litostomatea, Colpodea, Nassophorea, Protostomatea, Armophorea, Heterotrichea) were recorded. These are: Oxytricha rubripuncta, Gonostomum affine, Gonostomum kuehnelti, Oxytricha lanceolata, Oxytricha sp. 1, Oxytricha balladyna, Oxytricha euglenivora, Oxytricha pseudofusiformis, Oxytricha sp. 2, Oxytricha sp. 3, Tachysoma sp., Notohymena rubescens, Sterkiella histriomuscorum, Wallackia bujoreani, Gastrostyla minima, Pseudouroleptus procerus, Hemiamphisiella granulifera, Hemiamphisiella terricola, Periholosticha sp., Pseudourostyla cristata, Bakuella pampinaria, Paruroleptus notabilis, Euplotes muscicola, Halteria grandinella, Nassula sp., Dileptus sp., Protospathidium muscicola, Spathidium sp. 1, Protospathidium serpens, Spathidium sp. 2, Spathidium sp. 3, Colpoda magna, Colpoda steinii, Colpoda cucullus, Colpoda inflata, Metopus sp. 1, Metopus sp. 2, Metopus hasei, Metopus sp. 3, Condylostomides etoschensis, Blepharisma japonicum.
