With the development and utilization of coal resources, the mining depth is extended, the mine flood threat is increased seriously. However, due to the complexity and uncertainty of groundwater movement, the diversity of mine flood types, the work of mine flood preventing and cure is currently accomplished by the water-control experts. If we want to succeed in the work of groundwater preventing and cure,we must have a clear understanding of the groundwater movement, which is in need of numerical simulation technology of groundwater and three dimensional visualization. In this paper,we lucubrated the development of groundwater numerical simulation ,three dimensional visualization and geographical information system(GIS) at home and abroad, mainly discussed the following content: Estabilshed the groundwater mathematical model of mining area by using groundwater dynamics knowledge and practical situation of mining area. Studyed the finite difference method and finite element method ,select a more suitable theoretical methods based on the mining area practical situation, realized the groundwater numerical simulation by using SuperMap GIS software and the component development. Realized the three dimensional visualization of groundwater by using Visualization Toolkit (VTK) technology and Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Dot Net programming platform. We provide support for mine flood preventing and cure based on groundwater numerical simulation and three-dimensional visualization. In addition,we tested the groundwater numerical simulation and three dimensional visualization software in NingZhuang well of Pingdingshan coal group Liyuan mine, test result is satisfactory, too.
