Compared with hydrophobic emulsion coating, hydrophilic coating could significantly reduce water contact angle of latex films, and atmosphere dust and kiss oily pollutants are hard to adherent on its surface. What's more, emulsion paint has good resistance to water and resistance to contamination performance in application as anti-fog/antifouling coatings. Poly (vinyl acetate/butyl acrylate/acrylic acid sodium) modified emulsion of high content (40%) and good stability (kept 6 months or more at room temperature) was prepared by semi-continuous seeded emulsion polymerization in this paper.First, these factors including polymerization process, emulsified lipids, stirring speed, reaction temperature, and pH value, electrolyte type on stability of vinyl acetate emulsion such as reaction stability, chemical stability, mechanical stability, and storage stability had been researched and the best polymerization process conditions have been obtained as well. Then the performances of P(VAc/BA/AA) and P(VAc/BA/NaAA) co-polymerization emulsion had been improved and optimized by modification. Finally latex particle size was characterized by DLS. The number average molecular weight of copolymers was characterized by GPC, and its water retention rate was tested. Properties of latex films and their influencing factors on water contact angles, water absorption and tensile strength were studied. Results showed that introduction of appropriate acrylic acid sodium salt had a major effect on emulsion stability and water retention, while the latex film was hydrophilic and its mechanical strength had been also improved.
