WEDM(Wire Cut Electrical Discharge Machining) uses heat generated by high-frequency pulses to erode metal, and the single pulse is one of the key-factors to affect the processing quality. The pulse generator is an important part of WEDM machine and it is one of the main factors to affect WEDM process .The test of the technique has significance to improve performance of the pulse generator.This paper focuses on characteristics and working principles of resistless pulse generator for wire cut electrical discharge machining power. The power supply system is built, and the process experiment is realized on an existing WEDM machine. The experimental parameters are analyzed to optimize the power's performance.The development of domestic and international technology for WEDM and pulse generator is introduced. It gives a brief introduction of the various types of traditional and new power's principle and their advantages or disadvantages. It is important to develop resistless pulse generator.The DC/DC transformation system of constant current source for pulse generator is researched, and the performances of existing types of DC/DC converters and analyses their advantages and disadvantages are compared. Then, it analyses every mode and the principle of the double-transistor forward with interleaving and transformer paralleling DC/DC converter which we choose.The control systems of pulse generator are researched. The principles of constant current source control circuit, timing control circuit and over-voltage protection control circuit are particularly introduced.The output of pulse generator is detected, the waveform of every terminal is analyzed and the reason of waveform is explained.The experiments are carried out. It analyses the different reflection of different pulse width, pulse and peak currents on the processing parameters in order to find out the law of technique.
