The silica-polymer nanocomposites were obtained via in situ ultraviolet radiation .Two kinds of nano-SiO2 were prepared. One is prepared by Sol-Gel process from tetramethoxysiloxane(TMOS) and modified by hydroxyethyl aery late, which is about Inm in diameter determined by transmission electron microscope (TEM). The structure of this kind nano-SiO2 was measured by means of FT-IR and GPC. The other is prepared from organic colloidal silica and grafted by silane coupler, which is about llnm in diameter determined by TEM. The morphology of nanocomposites were investigated by means of TEM and attenuated total reflectance (ATR) Fourier transform infared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The refractive index, abrasion-resistance and mechanical properties were also measured. The results showed that the compatibility between nano-SiO2 and polymer was very good and nanoparticles agglomeraters didn't exist when nano-SiO2 content was low. During the curing, nano-SiO2 migrated to the surface of thin film. The refractive index of nanocomposite decreased. The larger nano-SiO2 could increase the abrasion-resistance of composite and the little one couldn't. The inflance of the nano-SiO2 on the mechanical properties of nanocomposites was also discussed.
