The high flexible fixture has been an imperatively accessorial means of modern manufacturing system, but there has not appeared very maturely commercial Computer-Aided Fixture Design software as yet. With the fast development of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the designers introduce it to the Computer-Aided Fixture Design system, but they aren't very useful for the problematic complexity of the modular fixture. The Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) that has developed from the skin-deep machine imitation to the deep-seated machine thinking technology has already been attached more importance by the cognitive science and AI researchers. Because CBR carries through the ratiocination with the experience knowledge that is expressed as the case on the base of the customary case, the profound research of CBR redounds to discussing the mechanism by which human resolve the problem and study new knowledge, to resolving the knowledge which is difficult to obtain and the fragility of the reasoning in the expert system, to making the hypothesis and presume on the base of the primary experience in the undiscovered areas to help to resolve the problem, and to seeking out the answer when we have no effective arithmetic. The modular fixture configuration design means the fixture combined assembling design. In this paper, CBR is introduced to the computer-aided fixture configuration design system in order to make the design system more intelligent and more convenient for the user. This paper introduces the application of CBR in Computer-Aided Fixture Design, including the expression of configuration design, searching and matching of case etc. This paper mainly does the following work:(1) Bringing forward the concept of special structure on the base of the discussion with the assembling workers and putting the special structure into the case warehouse;(2) Constructing the case warehouse of the modular fixture and special structure on the base of Microsoft Access;(3) Bringing forward the method on the base of Depth Firstly Searching (DPS) in case searching;(4) Constructing the Computer-Aided Fixture Design system on the base of CBR.
