Welding Procedure Qualification occupies an important position in the manufacture process of big container, and is also the guarantee for the quality of welding. In this paper, expert system, welding procedure qualification technique, database technique and network technique were integrated a system to accomplish Network Based Intelligent Welding Procedure Qualification Management System (IWPQMS) based on the user-interface for a practical project, Welding Procedure Qualification Management System for the welding department of Beijing B&W company. Windows2000 Server, MS SQL Server 2000 and MSVB & ASP were used as the network operating system, the database system, and the developing tools of its application programs in IWPQMS, respectively.According to the character of B&W company's welding department, on the basis of the design principle of advancement, economy, efficiency, reliability and easy operating, a compound system structure of C/S and B/S that can fully utilize the computer and network resources of the B&W company is used in IWPQMS. Engineers can operate the establishment, examination and revision, resource information query of the welding procedure qualification via network by means of IWPQMS. At the same time, the workload of engineers can be decreased, and the efficiency of design can also be increased due to the adoption of expert system in the establishment of welding procedure system. In this paper, the main structures, principle and achieving process of IWPQMS were introduced in detail. IWPQMS has a very important significance not only to the theory research but also to the practical project for the intelligent computer aided procedure design.
