This thesis mainly contains research work as following:sstudy of the structural and functional parameters of PFU protozoan community collected from Hongfeng Lake, the relationship between environmental factors and characteristic parameters of protozoan community, water quality assessment of this lake and toxicity test of taxonomic loss method in the lake.1) According to our investigation from April 2002 to March 2003, the protozoa fauna consists of 216 taxa. Among them, Phytomastigophorea 46 , Zoomastigophorea 20,Sarcodina 63 and Ciliophora 87. The research work of relationship between environmental factors and characteristic parameters of protozoan community was carried out in Hongfeng Lake , which is the biggest artificial karst lake in Guizhou province. Because of the colonization processes of PFU protozoan community are fit to the MarAuthur-Wilson equilibrium model of island biogeography, the structure and function of PFU protozoa community are stable. When environment factors differ, the structure and function of PFU would change in corresponding manners.The results demonstrated that there is an apparently seasonal change in Hongfeng Lake: the highest structural parameter is in summer and autumn, the lowest in winter. The structural parameters of protozoan community in North Lake is higher than in South Lake in Hongfeng at the same season. These indicated that the water quality of the lake is the best in autumn and summer, but the lowest in winter. Water quality of North Lake is better than that of South Lake. Clearing by itself^ the water quality in Hongfeng Lake at exit is better than at entry.2) The seasonal change of the functional parameters of protozoan community is coincide with the structural parameter. When environmental stress existed, the colonization rate and the number of species would decrease. For example, a large of wasted water from Guizhou Fertilization Factory was flowed into North Lake on December 17, 2002. The species of PFU in North Lake which is in equilibrium, decreased from 48 to 27, at last to 5. On contrary, the species of PFU in South Lake kept 38 at the same time in Hongfeng.3) A new rapid toxicity tests-method of taxonomic loss is first used at karst lake in Guizhou province. The MATC of CuSO4 gotten from North Lake and South Lake , fitted to the China standard for surface water. This, results of the test show that the new rapid method is effective in the karst lake.Comparing with method of MacArthur-Wilson colonization curve, the taxonomic loss method indicated the same difference of water quality between in North Lake and, Southiake.
