First of all, the basic structure, working principle, characteristics and research development of hydrocyclones are introduced. At present, gravity-settling facilities are normally used in oilfields for produced-fluid pre-separation. This kind of facility occupies a larger working area, needs a longer treating time, and has relatively lower separation efficiency. Nowadays, many researchers have begun to undertake the research work of new separation technologies, such as hydrocyclonic separation, gas floatation, membrane separation, and so on. Due to the many advantages of hydrocyclones, it has been regarded to a great extent.After pre-separation hydrocyclone structural types analysis, the structural and operating parameters are researched. Oil-water pre-separation hydrocyclones' main structural and operating parameters are determined. Through 1000m3/d oilfield experiments, hydrocyclones' combination modes were tested. The contrast test shows that there is no apparent difference on separation effect between pipe type and vessel type multi-tube combination hydrocyclones. But in views of hydrocyclones' working characteristics and actual oilfield application, the vessel type should be considered first. By the way of pressure-boosting modes and coalescence experiments, it is thought that low-cut pressure-boosting mode and coalescence are beneficial to the improvement of hydrocyclone's separation efficiency.At last, 5000m3/d scale oilfield experiments were carried out. When inlet water cut is about 85%~95%, the oil cut of hydrocyclone's underflow outlet can be treated to below 5000mg/L; at the same time, the water cut of overflow outlet can also fulfill the requirement of less than 30%. If using two stage hydrocyclones in series, the underflow oil cut can be disposed to less than 1000mg/L.Hydrocyclones have higher efficiency, convenient operation and maintain, and other advantages. Focus on hydrocyclones, through reforming existed oilfield program, this new type sewage treatment method will be definitely used in actual application.
