A systematic methodology for automatic planning of modular fixture for dowel-pin system is presented in this paper. The precondition of the method is that the geometric shape, the orientation way and the orientation position relative to the base plate and the parts are known. The design method includes the automatic determining way of the clamping parts position, the automatic generation of the clamping parts, the automatic fixing of the the clamping parts , the automatic evaluating of the clamp plan quality and so on.Furthermore, the parts data base of modular fixture for dowel-pin system is founded. Finally, a prototype system is developed with ACIS6.3, Visual C++, Microsoft access. Some samples have proved the algorithms involved in this paper.
