Design Of Wire Electric Discharge Machining NC System Based On Universal Serial Bus

The Universal Serial Bus (USB) is an industry input/output standard to the Personal Computer (PC) architecture. It can take place of the traditional serial or parallel port for its high speed. By combining the technologies of USB with that of Computer Numerical Control (CNC) of Wire Cut Electric Discharge Machining (WEDM), a system of PC for WEDM based on USB are designed.A CNC card is designed and the program for the system is developed in C51 to carry out the communication and process control. With the USB interface chip controlled by microcontroller, the communication between the card and PC is achieved.A microcontroller with flash memory 89C51RD2 is introduced in the system, the download of the process code is extremely convenient.A driver program and management program in PC are developed which, by cooperating with the card, monitor and manage the machine.
