Ten solid complexes of rare earth perchlorate with methyl-phenacyl sulfoxide(L) proportional mixed complexes(Tb3+ mixed by Tm3+ of rare earth perchlorate with the ligand have been synthesized and characterized. By elemental analysis, coordination titration and TGA studies. The composition of the complexes were suggested as RE(C104)3 ?L5 ?C2H5OH(RE= La, Pr, Nd, Sm , Eu, Gd, Tb, Tm, Yb, Dy) and (TbxTmy) (Cl 04)3 ?L5 ?C2H5OH (x:y=l. 000:0. 000, 0. 999:0. 001, 0. 995:0. 005, 0. 990:0. 010, 0. 950:0. 050, 0. 9 00:0.100) respectively.IR spectra , MS and 1HNMR studies indicated that the ligands are bonded with RE (III) ions. The oxygen atom in sulf inyl group coordinated with rare earth ions while carbonyl are not coordinated. The Molar conductivities in acetone solution indicate that two inorganic anions C104 are coordinated and the other does not. Fluorescence spectra ofEu3+, Tb'3+ complexes show that ligand has strongly sensitization effect. In addition, the fluorescence emission intensity of Tb3+Vould be enhanced by Tm3+ in the mixed complexes (Tm3+ was mixed). Tm3+ has a good sensitization to the complexes of Tb3+ in the ratio of 0. 995:0. 005. The fluorescence intensity can increase 147%.Phosphorescence spectra of the ligand show that the triplet state energy of the ligand is most matching with the 5D4 energy of Tb3+ ions, the efficiency of transfer energy is high. The intensity of the luminescence is strong.
