This paper introduced a testing and analyzing system for arc welding quality based on the visual instrument which is allodially empoldered, and all the information for analyzing comes from welding current and arc voltage. Basing on the result of welding quality analyzing and estimating by this visual instrument system, we can know the performance of welding equipment and welding consumer in one hand, in the other hand we can optimize the design of them, also the welding procedure can been optimized.The system composed of hardware inspecting circuit and visual instrument software. Besides the PC, the other hardware in this system are consist of A/D convector (DAQ),Hall sensors of welding voltage and welding current and data line. The visual instrument software is programmed by LabWindows/CVI. With this system, we can implement signal sampling,waveforms showing, statistics and analysis of data storing,curve and data printing etc. In this system, the Visual Instrument software is the core, through the software using some algorithms which are mainly statistics methods, we can obtain the Probability Density Distribution curve, Class Frequency Distribution curve and U-I curves. We also can obtain many parameters like average short-circuit period arc time, average short-circuit time, average short-circuit peak current, average short-circuit instantaneous current,average current during short-circuit period, and their standard deviation.When the metal droplets uniformly transferred, the shape of the waveforms becomes very irregular, and hence, much more spatters is generated. The purpose of this study was to develop statistical linear and nonlinear regression models based on the amount of spatters, meanwhile which can been an effective index implying arc welding quality. This paper also designs a program was to research the relation between arc voltage and short-circuit frequency through numeric fitting. The welding current and arc voltage waveforms are collected for different arc voltage in the experiment using semiautomatic co2 welding equipment. The analyzing and estimating testified this system is successful.
