In the paper a lot of research work has been done on the pipeline specimens. The principle and method of the magnetic flux leakage nondestructive testing of the pipeline cracks are studied. The quantitative inspection of the pipeline cracks is realized. The technology of the digital signal processing is also deeply probed into and the digital signal processor is applied to the quantitative detection of the pipeline cracks, and then the quantitative detection instrument which is based on DSP is invented. The magnetic-field sensitive sensor head composed of magnet excitation regulator and Hall Device is developed at first. Then the pretreatments of the analog signals, such as magnification of the weak signal and signal filtering are investigated based on the process of the picking up of the crack signals by the magnetic-field sensitive probe, and so that the conditioning circuit board which is used in the filtering and magnification of the magnetic flux leakage signals is invented. Third, through the analysis of the data, the information of the pipeline cracks is gotten. At last, the quantitative detection instrument of magnetic flux leakage for the pipelines is got by combined the sensor head module, the conditioning circuit module and the digital signal processor together, and through combined debugging of the hardware and software, satisfactory results are got in the practical testing.
