The aim of this paper is to obtain a kind of composite particle jet abrasive which was composed of unsaturated polyester resin (UPR) and inorganic powder. The products could be produced by suspension polymerization and used with water in micro-processing. The composite particles must have suitable diameter(140~250μm),high mass ratio of target particle, high hardness value, nice density and strength.Firstly, the inorganic powder was chosen from SiO2, Al2O3 and TiO2.The results indicted that SiO2 because of thixotropy and TiO2 because of low hardness of composite particle are not suitable, so Al2O3 is the best filling of UPR.Secondly, the various factors, which affect the particle characters, such as the kinds of stabilizer, the amount of stabilizer, the compound stabilizer, the content of NaCl, the rate of oil and water, and the agitation speed were studied. Hardness, density and interface of composite particle were researched by calcining method, micro-hardness tester, density test, SEM, TEM, EDS. Tensile property, impact property and thermo-stable of UPR/Al2O3 composite particle was estimated by the comparison of hardness UPR/2#Al2O3 composite particle and UPR/2#Al2O3 casting composite sample.The results indicted that , (1) UPR/Al2O3 composite particles that are spherical and smooth can be synthesized through suspension polymerization, the best mass ratios (particles size 140~250μm) of UPR/1#Al2O3 composite particle and UPR/2#Al2O3 composite particle respectively are 61.93%and 59.14%; (2) the best processing parameter of UPR/ 2#Al2O3 composite particle is HAP0.5%(wt),PVA8%(wt),NaCl2.13%(wt),SDBS0.3%(wt),the rate of oil and water( 1:4) and the agitation speed(600rpm);(3) When the additive content of Al2O3 was between 1% and 70%, loss of 1#Al2O3 and 2#Al2O3 during the synthesis respectively were 10.1~38.8% and 13.1~50.6(wt)%, and increased with the additive content of Al2O3 increasing; at the same of additive content of Al2O3, the loss of 1#Al2O3 was larger than that of 2#Al2O3; Al2O3 can effectively improve the density of composite particle; (4)the maximum hardness of 2#Al2O3 composite particles and 1#Al2O3 composite particles were respectively 39.42HV and 25.66HV, at the same of additive content of Al2O355%; hardness of 2#Al2O3 composite particles was larger than that of 1#Al2O3 composite particles, at the same of additive content; influencing factors of the difference were loss of Al2O3, effect of surface treating and scattered state in UPR; (5) the tensile strength, impact strength and thermal deformation temperature of 35%(wt) 2#Al2O3 casting composite sample and the corresponding composite particle were respectively 40.017MPa, 0.513×103KJ/m2 and 123℃, because hardness of both were same.Last, method, processing technology and of s effect of surface treating Al2O3 using of KH-570 were studied by suspension oscillation method and SEM. Hardness and density of UPR/surface treating Al2O3 composite particle and UPR/surface untreating Al2O3 composite particle were studied.The result indicted that the effect of surface treating of Al2O3 using of KH-570(3%) and wet method was best; Properties of UPR/ surface treating Al2O3 composite particle was sharply better UPR/surface untreating Al2O3 composite particle.
