In this work, the features of shape .distribution characteristic of dissemination and size of coal pyrites in Yanzhou ,Zibo ,Wuda coal were studied systematically from both microscopic and macroscopic aspects. Micron pyrites in high sulfur coal was investigated by transmission electron microanalyser for the first time , indicating that the finely disseminated pyrites sulfur removal from coal is difficult and its washability is evaluated.In the study , an attempt was made to study the application of electrochemistry controlled reduction in desulfurization by flotation. The relationship between the pulp flotation and pulp potential and pulp pH values has been investigated. The influences of electrolysisvoltage ,time ,concentration of electrolyte and pulp pH value on electro-reduction desulfurization by flotation were systematically examined. The results indicated that a regularity change was presented and the best removal rate of total sulfur from coal was obtained.The surface compounds formed on the coal surface under different electrochemistry condition were identified with XRD spectrometric methods. The results showed that the surface oxidation of coal pyrite is easy. Iron polysulfide was found. Depending upon the electrochemistry reduction ,the removal rate of sulfur in flotation was enhanced. With the use of modern surface analytical methods, such as XPS and FTIR spectrum ,the fine coal desulfurization mechanisms of electro-reduction was examined. The experiment showed that polysulfied in pyrite surface was reducted, and oxygen-containing functional groups on the coal surface were hydrogenated, and then the floatability of coal was increased.As show above the electrochemistry reduction is a simple new method for suppressing pyrite with good economic benefits and no environment pollution.
