In order to strengthen dynamic performance of existing machine tools and to improve development approaches of new types of machine tools, it is of great theoretical and practical significance to make a thorough research of the dynamic performance of machine tools with high velocity and high precision. According to the characteristics of machine tools, with the consideration of the advantages of virtual prototype technology on system analysis, a systematic scheme is provided. On the basis of analyzing the dynamic performance of machine tools, the virtual prototype technology is regarded as the key technology of the performance simulation system. The systematic scheme of the simulation system is also studied. According to the composition of machine tools and the requirement of the abstract modeling of the performance simulation system, the machine tools system is divided into several correlative sub-systems. The modeling approaches of mechanical dynamic system and control system are analyzed. Theory model and simulation model of servo-drive system are built in corresponding software. The nonlinear characteristics of friction in mechanical system are analyzed. And then different friction models are compared. According to the characteristics of friction in servo-drive system, an effective friction model is developed referring to the Karnopp model. The friction model is built in software MATLAB/Simulink. On the basis of analyzing the characteristics of the two engineering software ADAMS and MATLAB, the interface ADAMS/Control is redesigned to integrate the control system model in Simulink with the mechanical system model in ADAMS, in order to build the performance simulation environment. The influence of friction force to positioning accuracy is analyzed in this simulation environment.
