Purpose of trajectory planning of Automatic Fiber Placement of composite materials is for getting the trajectory of the head on model surface. Because of the complexity of the model surface and parameters of placement, it is hard to get the trajectory by traditional NC interpolation algorithm. So the other method should be taken to get the trajectory. A novel algorithm, TCA (Triangle Cell Algorithm) is proposed to get the trajectory of placement on free profile. It is based on STL (Stereo Lithography) document format. STL uses the manner of the facet modeling to divide the free profile into triangle cells. And the surface is approached by these triangle cells. The 3D part is described by STL method. Accordingly, the curved surface is gotten by TCA. Through the method, the complex question of seeking trajectory on free profile is transferred into question of seeking continuous track on some triangle facets. TCA makes the trajectory planning more effective, sententious and adaptive. The trajectory planning of placement on S inlet duct of airplane is implemented to dissertate TCA. Controlling of the placement parameters, such as placement angle and placement width, confirming the start point and number of track according to equally divide perimeter method, wiping off the non-correct track by the smoothness of variational trajectories' orientation vectors, seeking the track on triangle facet by rotate slice algorithm, and giving the data structure and algorithm are all presented in TCA. At last, the display of trajectory of placement on S inlet duct is realized. The feasibility and correctness of the method is validated. Technique details of TCA for application is discussed on the thesis. It establishes the base for farther research in engineering.
