Ammonium chloride is a kind of fine nitrogenous fertilizers; however, powdery ammonium chloride is easily to be hygroscopic and agglomerated. On the other hand, because the granular ammonium chloride is featured of stable particles with high density and enough strength, granular ammonium chloride is not easily to be hygroscopic or agglomerated, and it is not easily to fly upwards to produce dust, and it is easily to be stored and transported. For the granular ammonium chloride, mechanized fertilizing is also easily to be carried out. Therefore, in order to improve the performance of ammonium chloride, the powdery ammonium chloride should be transformed into granular one. With enlarging the equipment for producing alkali, making the powdery ammonium chloride into granular one is a good approach to improve the economic benefit and enlarge the market of ammonium chloride products in Sichuan Zigong Honghe Chemical Inc.There are two technical routes to produce granular ammonium chloride. One is changing the operating condition of the crystallization equipment to achieve large particles of ammonium chloride crystals; the other one is introducing roller extrusion equipment to make the powdery ammonium chloride into granular one. After a series of analyses, the first route was considered to be not proper in Sichuan Zigong Honghe Chemical Inc. Therefore, the route using roller extrusion equipment was adopted to produce granular ammonium chloride. According to the production capacity of ammonium chloride in Sichuan Zigong Honghe Chemical Inc., the scale of the equipment for producing granular ammonium chloride wasdetermined as 70 kt/a.According to the characteristics of powdery ammonium chloride and the requirement of granular ammonium chloride products, the equipment selections for the main working procedures including extrusion, fragmentation and sieving were carried out by calculation on the basis of a lot of data from the 50kt/a granular ammonium chloride equipment in Tianjin Alkali Plant and from 150kt/a alkali equipment in Sichuan Zigong Honghe Chemical Inc. To control and adjust the production more easily, frequency conversion actiyators were introduced in the main equipments including MS300 extrusion equipment and hammer pulverizer. Therefore, the flexibility of the equipment operation could be enlarged, and then optimum equipment selection and optimum operational condition could be achieved.The technological design and the equipment selection for the production of granular ammonium chloride using roller extrusion equipment presented in this paper provided an efficient project to adjust the product structure of the ammonium chloride in Sichuan Zigong Honghe Chemical Inc.
