For the apparent combustion-supporting action of oxygen in combustion or explosion of combustible gases (vapors), the people ignore the importance of safe oxygen content easily. At present, the safe oxygen content of combustible gases (vapors) is a more new subject, and the documentation about it is few because of the limitation of classical explosive theory and experiment condition. This article studies the conception of safe oxygen content by theoretical and experimental researches, and discusses the simple method to decide minimum oxygen density and critical value of oxygen density by chemical calculation and graphing method, and elementarily analyses the connection between minimum oxygen density and critical value of oxygen density. On the basis of explosive testing device of combustible gases, Some combustible gases (vapors) that have been applied to productive practice are studied, and the explosion limit and safe oxygen content of them are determined in different condition.(1) The low explosion limit of Methyl sulfide for producing DMSO and nitrogen dioxide and oxygen is determined, and has important referenced value of practice for safety production on normal productive condition.(2) The minimum oxygen density of liquid vapors of decalin that is extensive used in textile industry in different temperature and density. The effect of different temperature and density to minimum oxygen density is analyzed. The value of experimental determination is compared with theoretical value and the changing regularity of minimum oxygen density is discussed.(3) Making use of appending nitrogen to mixture, this article determines the explosion limit and critical value of oxygen density of coal gas and LPG in different experimentalcondition, and researches the connection between explosion limit and critical value of oxygen density, and the effect of inactive gas, initial temperature, initial pressure and variety and composition of gases to critical value of oxygen density.
