High water-absorptive resin is a new type of functionally high molecular which is also called superabsorbent. .Compared with the traditional water-absorptive material such as sponge and silica gel, high water-absorptive resin has a stronger ability of water absorption and can absorb 1000 times the weight of itself .Super absorbent appears to lose little water when it is under pressure .It can be classified as three types according to the material resource of itself .The first is starch-based absorbent and the second is cellulose-based absorbent .The third is synthetic polymer absorbent .Every type has its specific quality .The research on super absorbent is mainly focused on starch-based absorbent has been relatively less studied , but they are appealing more and more attentions now .Because cellulose and starch are similar in physical and chemical qualities ,they can both react with vinyl monomer. In this paper , using sugar beet pulp as raw materials , through etherification and crosslinking and graft polymerization ways ,the optimum synthetic processes processes absorbing characters and keeping water characters for the two kinds of cellulose superabsorbents were discussed.The synthetic conditions of these new products were researched systematically. The suitable synthetic conditions were as follows:1. Etherification and crosslinking superabsorbent: Sodium hydroxide 40% ,alkalified time 1.5h, sodium hydroxide 10mL ,the amounts of crosslinking addition were 7% ,based on the amount of monomers, sodium and etherification ratio was 2.5:1(mol:mol) .volume of the ethyl alcohol 25 mL.2. The absorbability of the etherification and crosslinking procducts were determined ,and the best absorbability in distilled water and 0.9% NaCl solution of these new products were as follows :57.0g/g, 16.7g/g.3. Graft polymerization superabsorbent: The suitable DS(0.44) of carboxymthylation was lg; The neutralization degree of acrylic acid was 90%. Reaction temperature was 60℃.The amounts of initiator, crosslinking addition were 3%, 4% respectively, based on the amount of monomers. Monomers and CMC raw materials ratio was 7:1.4. The absorbability of the graft polymerization procducts were determined ,and the best absorbability in distilled water and 0.9% NaCl solution of these new products were as follows: 495.5g/g, 80.9g/g.5. The paper also discussed the applications of the two new products to improve the water absorbability of sandy soil .The experiment results showed that the absorbability of sandy soil should be increased when the amount of the products increased in the mixed sand soil.
