Coupling agents show much more important effect in compounds material, and have attracted much interests all over the word. In this dissertation, the development of coupling agents and their application is reviewed, especially about silica coupling agents and titanate coupling agents. To overcome the defects of silica coupling agent's, four kinds of coupling agents were synthesized and were be used to non-carbonblack filler (e.g. silica, calcium carbonate and clay) containing rubber composites. The hardness ,tensile strength ,200%(MPa) modules and elongation at break of rubber composites were also studied, and the possible coupling mechanism of the coupling agent was discussed. The research results indicated that the amount of sulphur contained in coupling agents is a sensitive factor in the rubber composites. A good co-effect of "filler-agent"forms in the composites and a better reinforcement was achieved by suitably choosing the coupling agents and controlling the amount, and by means of adding suitable amount of the coupling agent, a better dispersion of the fillers in the rubber composites and improved mechanical properties of the cured product were observed. Thus, a co-reinforcing system of filler-coupling agent to the rubber was suggested. All of the coupling agents are novel and prospective materials for applications in rubber industry.
