For the problem of ecological environment water demand in the estuary of Yellow River, this paper analyses the situation of current studies through the correct domestic and international ecological environment water demand. With the hydrologic and ocean color remote sensing data from 2000 to 2003, it presents a new model for calculating the water demand of the ecological environment in estuary and gives out an application example. The main content of this study is shown as follows:1. IDL6.0 (Interactive Data Language v6.0) software is used to meet the demand of fast batching RS (remote sensing) data extraction and its preprocess.2.ANN (artificial neural network) is used to make self_organizing feature cluster map of the sample data. It also presents a new ANN model for calculating the ecological water demand.3. Embedded & ActiveX programming is involved in the study of HMI (human machine interface) developing. A successful and valuable try is made for the integration of IDLDrawWidget&VB (Visual Basic) programming; the following Matlab&VB combined programming is also effective in the study.Based on the above study, a method of minimal ecological environment water demand is presented as a guide to regulate the water resource of the estuary and down stream of the Yellow River.
