There is a common problem in many of the open-pit mining in our country, that is,along with the extend of the open pit; the high sharp side slope brings the production aserious problem. So many open pits will transfer from the present open pit to theunderground mining in the end.Against the production reality of Shirengou open pit, the optimum thickness of coveris studied during turning open pit into underground mining making use of modelexperiment and computer simulation. The function of drawing body and loose body is gotmaking use of drawing ellipsoid theory and secondary coefficient; The cover interfacemoving is simulated making use of the similar material and computer, also the computersimulation program is generated, also the results is contrasted between experiment and thecomputer simulation; The granular leak experiment is made, and the empirical formula oncover leak deepness and leak time during turning open pit into underground mining isobtained making use of dimension analysis method, and the formular is used bonding thereality of ShiRengou iron ore, and the conclusion is got that 40 metres covering can meetthe require of ShiRengou iron ore during turning open pit into underground mining. The dada is provided for the study of appropriately determining the thickness of coverduring turning open pit into underground mining, and methods is given to borrow for thesimilar mines like ShiRengou iron ore. The method is studied on how to determine thethickness of the cover appropriately and economically during turning open pit intounderground mining, the subject is provided with actual significance for the safety of mineturning open pit into underground mining.
