Indexable milling insert with 3D complex groove has better cutting performance than insert with plane face and has the tendency to replace insert with plane face. However, the kinds of milling insert with 3D complex groove are few. The groove is modeled by experience and there is a lack of theory basis. To get better groove with cutting performance and better stress field, the theoretical and experimental researches of milling stress field, the distributing principles of the milling force with grooved insert and evaluation are studied comprehensively and profoundly. Firstly, the milling force milling experiments have been made with milling force-measuring system. Using dynamic data collection system, the force data of the same cutting parameters with different milling insert is collected and analyzed. Secondly, the experiment formula of milling force and cutter-chip is built using MATLAB according to the experiment data. Based on the formula and the math model, the density function is built, at the same time the function is visualized, which provides the boundary condition for finite analysis of stress field. Thirdly, the solid model and meshing model of flat rake milling insert and waved edge milling insert is formatted, then using the density function as the boundary condition, get the result of the finite stress analysis. Finally, considering each influencing factor, the model of fuzzy comprehensive evaluation for stress field is established based on fuzzy mathematics theory. The two-band fuzzy comprehensive evaluation is applied. Not only are all of the influencing factors considered but also all the information of every evaluation stage is reserved, which makes the evaluation result accord to the practice. The comprehensive evaluation of wave insert and milling insert with plane face is processed. All these studies provide the reference for the building groove optimization of 3D groove milling insert and provide the theory gist for the groove development of milling insert.
