The nano-composites of Polypropylene (PP) /Attapulgite (AT), PP/EPDM/ AT and LDPE/AT were prepared by using different melt blending technologies. The surface modification of AT, the structure, morphology and mechanical properties of the nano-composites were studied systematically in terms of a series of modern analysis methods such as FTIR, DSC, TEM, SEM, tensile tester, Izod impact tester etc.Based on the experimental data, some important results were achieved. First, the homogeneous dispersion of AT to the nano scale in the PP and LDPE matrix was achieved when AG-102 was used as the surface modification agent and the appropriate process was selected. Second, the compatibility of AT and PP matrix was modified effectively when the PP-g-MAH was used as the compatibilizer in the composites of PP/AT, which resulted in the increase of the tensile and impact properties of the composites.
