Gear is one of the important parts of all sorts of gear-drive equipments, it's quality directly influences driving effectiveness of the gear runnings, accordingly the key to ensure the quality of gear-drive equipments is to detect all the gears in them accurately. The advanced design of the Online Synthetic Measuring Instrument for Gear in this article, adopted the novel measuring principle and the original method of error extraction, accomplishes a significant breakthrough on the base of the traditional gear tester.This article summarizes developing process, present status and developing tendency of the gear tester. Analyzing the method of individual errors extraction, the productivity requirement of modern automobile industry, comparing the merits and faults among one-flank gear rolling tester, dual flank gear rolling tester and other synthetic testers, article submits a fitting design proposal for existing condition and development requirement of gear profession in our country. This article also represents the operating principle, mechanical principle, circuit design, data procession and software design of such tester. It particularly uses two standard gears to do meshing test of the work piece concurrently. Using four grating sensors to separately extract data records, and after that, when the records are processed by corresponding software, all the needed error data is got. The mechanical structure of tester adopts bilateral symmetry design, which is good for equalizing stress and accuracy, moreover, tester adopts the characteristic cylinder promoted clampingstructure. Especially the design of gimbal mount, based on its ingenious structure, can make the whole body swing on two directions, and then taper error in the direction of teeth and taper error in the direction of axis are got. In the process of designing, we did our best to adopt cylinder promoting and stepper motor pushing for realization automatic measurements by circuit control and software control. The design of mechanical structure and software satisfy the demand of precision. This article also formulates data acquisition in circuit part, I/O card and control of stepper motor, and recommends the method of data procession, realization of software workflow and design.After experiment using the tester following the mentioned design above, we deal with and analyze the obtained data, the result indicates that the measuring system meet measuring request and can provide automatic data acquisition and image analysis. With the error analysis, we know the source of the errors and the effect to tester precision they can bring, and then we can compensate some of the errors by software, which can improve tester precision to a certain extend. All the technical indexes of the tester meet design requirement, it can successfully realize kinetic control, data-acquiring, data-processing, chart-displaying, analyzing, warning and error-processing in the whole measuring process.
