A Steel structure petroleum platform is one of important busywork establishments of ocean petroleum exploitation. Due to strong erosion character and particularity of geography location in Shengli shallow sea, to inspect and measure erosion status of steel structure petroleum platforms is one of important measures which can ensure well-balanced production, elimination of safety hidden troubles and decrease of accident occur. Fabrication time, structure and antisepsis construction of steel structure petroleum platforms are difference. Using space of petroleum platforms is finite. Development of small erosion status automatic inspection system is especially important because of these factors. At the same time, to optimize probe installation position, communication cable design and probe installation technology is the key problem starving for solution to realize erosion status inspection. The development of international erosion inspection is summarized in this paper.The study and application of national erosion inspection technology are discussed in detail. The online inspection study and the result are simply described and the erosion inspection system for steel petroleum platforms in Shengli shallow sea is illustrated in the study. Forecast and prospect of the technology are pointed out.
