Production planning is the core function of manufacturing execution system (MES), and plays the main role in the integrated automation system of production process. Production planning in an iron and steel enterprise consists of steel-making planning, continuous casting planning and hot rolling planning. In recent years the large-scale iron and steel enterprises oversea devote to develop integrated technology for steel-making, continuous casting and hot rolling(SM-CC-HR) and obtain more economy benefit. Therefore the problem of the integrated SM-CC-HR in domestic iron and steel enterprise needs to be solved.Taking the BaoSteel Corporation as the background, this paper studies the connection and production management pattern between hot rolling and continuous casting in the integrated production of MES, and concludes the advantages and disadvantages of each kind of production management pattern. An optimization method for the hot rolling plan is proposed for increasing Hot-Charged Ratio and decreasing the slabs accounting time for the slab yard. The paper establishes a model of hot rolling plan optimization and divides it into three sub-models based on the model's characteristic. Considering the problem as a large scale NP-hard problem, this paper uses an intelligent algorithm to solve this problem. According to the hot rolling plan optimization model, this paper compiles the hot rolling plan optimization program. The program is developed by Pro*C and the Oracle database in Unix and is embedded in Baosight MES.
