It is well known that, in printing industry, the three fields-prepress, press and post-press have got independently great development in the process of computerizing and automating. With the B2B and MIS etc. integrated into printing system, there are lots of information islands be formed. In most of the production environments the communication among the devices is not sufficient and the process is not fluid, which requires that different fields should exchange and share data each other.CIP4, who consists of many printing supplies and research or educational institutions, has released the XML-based JDF Specification version 1.0 on April 11~th, 2001. JDF is a file format used for general-purpose document exchanging and data sharing in the graphic arts industry. JDF is a comprehensive, XML-based file format proposed industry standard for end-to-end job ticket specifications combined with a message description standard and message interchange protocol. JDF is a new and practical technology specification, and it can really automate the printing workflow. The author emphasizes on how to realize the two API (Application Programming Interface) to parse JDF document and get the information in the node, by studying the JDF Specification systematically and its two API —DOM and SAX. The author also makes a research on how to store JDF files in database. To indicate the effect of the mechanism, the author has developed programs in Java and PL/SQL respectively. The paper obtains some significant results that will be valuable for implementing JDFbased printing digital printing workflow.
