Textile of the pre-Qin dynasty is an important part in the history of Chinese textile technology. During this period, it experienced two main stages: the period of hand-operated spinning and weaving (this period corresponded to primitive society—before Xia dynasty) and the period of the invention of hand-operated machines (this period extended from the Xia Dynasty to the Period of Warring States). From textile raw material, textile technology, textile machines and tools to the textile economical trade, they all have obtained the considerable development. As a result, it promoted the development of spinning and weaving technology in the Qin and Han Dynasty, and became a contributing factor for the famous " Silk Road".This paper has a systematic study on the textile technology of the pre-Qin dynasty by the literature and the archaeological discoveries, and it is divided into six parts: Chapter 1 is anintroduction, it introduced domestic research situation and the research significance of this topic at present. Chapter2 deals with textile raw material employed in the pre-Qin dynasty, the vegetable fibers such as ko-hemp, ramie, hemp, and animal fibers such as animal hair and silk are mainly employed. Ramie is unique in our country, it has been famous as "Chinese grass" in the world;the discovery and the use of the silk in our country is the most outstanding contribution to the world civilization. Chapter3 covers the study of textile technology and tools in the pre-Qin dynasty. The spinning and weaving technology of the pre-Qin dynasty originated from rudimentary hand skills that a more advanced spinning technique evolved, featuring the use of spindle, spinning wheel, and the primitive loom in the practice of the manufacturing and living;during this period, people have mastered the silk-reeling technique, dyeing technique, especially scouring technique, in this chapter, we will study scouring technique of pre-Qin dynasty by unearthed material. In chapter4, weaves and patterns of fabrics are studied. During this period, a lot of weaves such as plain, crossed-warp weaves, and compound weave. The varieties of fabrics are abundant, besides ko-hemp, ramie, hemp, wool fabrics, there were various silk fabrics, such as Sha (£!>) , Wan (!*O, Gao (IB), Qi (£f) , Jin and so on, and that the patterns and colors of the fabricshave made great progress. Chapter5 has studied spinning and weaving, textile process and textile economy. Textile technology of pre-Qin dynasty has already come into being a certain scale as the development of the three dynasty—Xia, Shang, Zhou. In Shang and Zhou dynasty, textile technology has been taken seriously, textile assumed a more social nature and were frequently treated as commodities. It has played a certain adjuvant role to culture communication of the East and the West even the famous " Silk Road". The last chapter summarized the entire paper.
